The accelerated reader program has been in place for many years.Students are asked to read a book and then take a computerized test.Points are awarded based on the number of questions that are answered correctly. Students select books that interest them and are in their zone of success based on their MLPP score. The selection of AR books includes fiction and nonfiction titles. The reading zone is based on your child’s Rigby Reading level and the nationally-normed STAR Reading test.
During the first few weeks of school I will be explaining the program and helping each child to get started.I will encourage the students to choose books that have a 1/2 point value and toward the lower end of the reading zone. This will allow the students to start out on a successful note. When students finish a book they sign up to take the test on our classroom computers or in the computer lab.Tests vary in length, usually containing 5 or 10 questions.Students then receive either full, partial or no points depending on the number of correct answers. The first quarter goal has been set at 8 points. The goal for each quarter will increase by two points, so the goals are 8, 10, 12, and finally 14 points for the last quarter.
Below you will find additional information about AR. You can take a sample test and set up to receive an email for each AR test your child takes this year.
