Classroom Management in my third grade classroom is handled two ways. First, I use a reward system. Each day your child will earn our classroom currency, called Dolphins. We design our own money and get paid daily for doing things like homework, being helpful, following directions, walking quietly in the hallway, etc. The students vote on a reward they would like to earn on Friday. This could be lunch in the classroom or a read-a-thon.I try to use this as a motivational incentive for the children.
The second part of my classroom management system is the Behavior Contract. The class will make a list of rules we need for all students to learn. One warning will be given for inappropriate behavior. If the inappropriate behavior persists, the child receives a Behavior Contract. The student writes a sentence and fills in the first bar on their Behavior Bar Graph. If a second bar is filled in, then there is a time out. If a third bar is filled in, then there is an Infraction Report. The child brings the Behavior Contract home to be signed by a parent and then return it to school. This will give you the opportunity to discuss things with your child or contact me if you have any questions.
